Today we're out on the farm getting potatoes one step closer to growing! We check in with the custom sprayer as he applies pre-emerge herbicide to keep weeds under control, troubleshoot a hydraulic leak on his Fendt sprayer, and talk about how important good service is when equipment breaks down.

Meanwhile, I'm out in the dammer diker changing worn-out points, dealing with a few defective new parts, and trying to stay ahead of the sprayer. We also find a nest of duck eggs out in the field, start up irrigation pivots, and take a closer look at the growing water shortage that's affecting farmers all across Idaho and the western United States.

With reservoirs running far below normal and many growers taking prevent-plant insurance due to lack of water, this season could be one of the most challenging in years. Will we have enough water to make it to potato harvest? Time will tell.
