Today we’re moving the combine to a new field of hard red spring wheat, and this field turns out to be a LOT more challenging than we expected!

Christopher is running the combine across some seriously steep hills, and with the terrain being this extreme, we have to be careful about getting too full and spilling grain—or worse, sliding or tipping the equipment. We also run into a few unexpected combine problems, including damaged feeder house slats, broken header guards, and a control box that decided to cause trouble.

The first field is full of weeds and only yields around 60–80 bushels per acre, but once we make the LONG move to the next field, things get much better. We put the straw shredder on the combine for the first time, and the wheat is yielding around **120–130 bushels per acre!**

This field is especially interesting because we previously spread a bunch of rotten potatoes here as fertilizer before planting. It looks like that potato fertilizer may have really helped because the wheat is looking fantastic.

We also time how long it actually takes us to move the combine, header, and grain cart nearly 10 miles to the next field. My guess was WAY off!

And of course, we finish the day with an incredible Idaho sunset over the combine.
