This is the last year of us growing sugar beet so it’s really disappointing to end with not making any money growing the crop this year. That is the reality of farming and producing food when the weather has a huge impact. The drought this year has hit all the crops hard, particularly spring crops and you need water to get a decent return.
In this video I go through the information British Sugar send us on every load we deliver to the factory and how soil and sugar content affect how much we get paid. I go through how much it costs us to grow the crop, the tons of sugar delivered and the actual £’s we lose.
We have also planted more wheat and done some more work on the Cereals site, lifted part of the drying floor in the grain store where we are putting Padel in.
